So my office moved yesterday. Oh what fun. They have moved us into an old building which has NONE of the ammenities of the last place. We don't even have our fridge back. Here I am bringing in my bruschetta chicken and garlic potatos for lunch and there is no bloody fridge to put them in. That made my day I can tell you. Once my manager arrived he showed me where the 'temporary' bar fridge is. This is going to work out REAL well. One bar fridge for 50 people. Real nice.
On the up side I do have a window to the outside world which I wasn't special enough before to have. I face North and I can see the Manulife Centre, the ROM and the Four Seasons hotel. It's nice to have a view actually. The only issue I have with the window is that there are vertical blinds that you cannot move up. They are between the two panes of glass so you can close them and open them but you can't put them up at the top of the window so as not to obstruct the view. But I can learn to love my room with a view for sure.
The decor in here is vintage seventies. You can tell that anytime a government office moves people see it as an opportunity to rid themselves of unwanted furniture and knick knacks. We have found ourselves to be the inheritors of some pretty interesting stuff. One co-worker found herself with one of those old stand-up ash trays and a cabinet that looks like it once housed an old radio, which incidently may become the office martini bar, while someone else ended up with some really weird piece of art and of course old bookcases and filing cabinets. But the ash tray that takes the cake.
It's pretty much chaos right now. Some people were lucky enough to end up with all their boxes, desk chair, phone and computer intact while others are searching in vain to find missing office pieces. One co-worker got her garbage can but not her CPU. I thought that was amusing. Her office ended up being clear on the other side of the floor from everyone else. We are currently calling it Siberia. I asked her who she pissed off that she ended up way over there.
Everyone is busily unpacking while I have been unpacked since about 8am. People kept passing my office and praising the fact that I'm already all moved in with all my pictures on the wall. I reminded them that I have been here since 7:30am so I damn well better look moved in by that point.
A bunch of us walked down to the Second cup kiosk and John bought us all drinks. Way too nice. It's a good way to start the day. We also have a pizza lunch to look forward to.
Last night I went for dinner at Pi Thom with Kate and Stuart. We got Spring Rolls, Shrimp Rolls, Glass Noodle Stir Fry, Basil Beef and Peanut Chicken.. A delicious feast!
